The Ideal Midweek Getaway. Finding Beauty In the Familiar.

These days, any excuse to get out of the city is a welcome idea. We’re all well into the stir crazy phase of this Covid world we’re living in and finding ways to enjoy the familiar or explore the areas in our own backyards has become a necessity more than ever. Last week my boyfriend decided he wanted to escape from the city and plan a little midweek getaway for us. One, I was thrilled I didn’t have to plan anything since I’m typically more of the planner in our relationship. Two, he refused to tell me where we were going adding a special element of surprise! He found this adorable little farm house outside of Livingston, Texas and it was just what we both needed. Fresh air, beautiful scenery, a large front porch with rocking chairs and a nice fire pit were just the things we needed to unwind, unplug, and reconnect.

This sweet little house deemed the Abbey Farmstead Bed & Breakfast, had two bedrooms, a large wrap-around porch, picnic tables for eating outdoors and plenty of cows to greet you in the morning. We were also driving distance from Lake Livingston and had the opportunity to get outdoors and explore our great state some more. Full disclosure, this house is pretty secluded and remote, which can be a little bit nerve-wracking at night but then you look up into the sky and you see all the stars and you instantly feel your body calm.

There is so much value in getting out of the city and into the fresh air. As someone who is typically used to lots of noise and the everyday bustle of city life, embracing the silence in the country is truly a luxury. It allows you the time to slow down, re-center yourself, and block out all the extra noise our brains are so accustomed to in our daily lives.

As a teacher, every summer I like to plan a trip. It gives me something to look forward to all year long and this summer with not being able to travel internationally or much domestically, this getaway gave me some semblance of normalcy. In addition to that, a trip with your significant other, to strengthen your connection and grow as a couple is never a bad idea. I truly feel one of the best ways to learn about your partner is through travelling together. Arzhang and I are definitely different travelers. I like to plan and have a list of things I want to do and see before visiting a new place so I don’t miss out on anything! Arzhi is much more spontaneous and loves to just land in a new city and walk around and explore. Luckily, with a little getaway like this it allowed me to take my planner’s hat off and just enjoy being with my honey. All my other planner girls out there, I highly suggest it.

Till next time, y’all!
