Athleisure Wear. The Perfect Combination of Comfort and Cute.

Athleisure wear is everywhere now. I like to call it my “going shopping at Trader Joe’s look” because let’s be real, I’m not really working out until later that afternoon or I’ve already done my morning workout routine. Whoever created the idea of athleisure wear, ladies we owe them big time. We can wear comfortable, not to mention, flattering clothing all the while looking adorable. I live in this stuff. Plus, these looks can often be multi-functional. For example, I can wear my leggings and cute crop for my morning walk and trip to the grocery store and then add some jewelry and maybe a layering piece and go meet my girlfriends for happy hour! It’s no wonder almost every major brand now sells their own version of athleisure wear. Such as, Target, American Eagle (Aerie), and Forever21. Then there are companies that focus solely on athletic wear like Fabletics or LuluLemon.

I thought a nice, relaxing, [leisure]ly stroll was much needed on this lovely summer day in Houston. As I started my walk with Lola I kept looking around thinking how quiet the park felt. We like to do our walks at Buffalo Bayou Park and typically it’s bustling with people running, biking and walking their dogs. After only about ten minutes I started to realize why it was so quiet at the park…. it was 3 o’clock in the afternoon in Houston!!!! What the hell was I thinking going on a walk during the hottest part of the day? Oh I know, I wasn’t. I’ve lived here my whole life, how could I have been so reckless as to not check the time and even worse, the heat index! In case y’all didn’t know, Houston summers are brutal. So word to the wise, check your damn watches and weather app before deciding to go on an afternoon stroll. Learn from my idiocy. Anyway.. onto talking about today’s OOTD!

I am a major advocate of feeling comfortable in your own skin and I base my style around this core belief. If I don’t feel comfortable or positive about what I’m wearing or it doesn’t make me feel like the best version of myself, I don’t wear it. It is so important as young women that we embrace our bodies and feel confident no matter what we are wearing. I know this is easier said than done and we are all guilty of hearing that negative self-talk in our heads from time to time. In a society where there are often so many things telling us and reinforcing one standard of beauty it can be difficult to see ourselves for the individual, beautiful women we are. I want this blog and my brand to be a space that uplifts all women and injects positivity into their lives. We have enough people telling us what we should be and how we should look, you don’t need one more person telling you those things. I’m here to tell you to be YOU! Let your style be an expression of how you view yourself and clearly today my style is telling the world, screw button and zippers I want to wear stretchy pants, dammit! There is no substitute for comfort and there is no substitute for you!

Till next time, y’all!
