How to Kick Your Spring Cleaning Routine Into High Gear.

It’s that time of year again…. that’s right. It’s time to reorganize and refresh my life. Y’all may think I’m crazy but there’s nothing I LOVE more than deep cleaning my home. It feels so good to “cut the extra fat” and remove things I’m either not using or wearing and donate them so they can be put to better use. Every year during Spring Break when I am off from school, I go through my closet and put together a donation bag to give to Goodwill. I also take the opportunity to organize and straighten up my space. Anyone else notice a difference in their mental health when they have a clean space to come home to? For me, it has become a necessary yearly ritual to help lift my spirits and give my mind a much needed reset.

That being said, let’s start in the closet! So, as you can see, I have all of my shoes lined along the baseboards of my closet floor: boots together, flats together, and sneakers together. Directly above my shoes on the shelf I have jeans folded into three piles: light wash denim (with distress/tears), medium/dark wash denim (for work), and colored denim. Next to my jeans, I have some sweaters stacked.

When looking to reorganize a space the first thing I like to do is consider all the ways the space serves me and how to make the space as efficient as possible, especially when getting ready in the mornings. One thing I liked about having my jeans folded on the shelf is it allowed me to see all my denim in one place and have quick access to them. However, aesthetically I don’t like the way it looks, even though it may be super functional. I got to thinking that maybe some bins would be a better solution so that it kept the inevitable overflow from piling up while also adding some straight lines to the space. I found some cute fabric clothing bins on Amazon that were the perfect size and help really tidy up the space! To shop the clothing bins, click here.

Next, it was time to go through all the clothing in my closet and start piling up my donations. I ended up with three bags full of clothing to donate to Goodwill! You should never throw away good clothing that you aren’t using, there are so many families out there that could benefit from your donations. It’s an extra step, but well worth it!

The next space I wanted to give a little love to was my refrigerator. So often my fridge feels like a dumping ground for leftovers and expired foods. I was tired of opening up the door only to be stressed and overwhelmed by what I saw inside. So, I decided to add this space to my list of things to reorganize during my spring cleaning. First, I went through my entire fridge and threw away any products that were expired and put any leftovers I had into the freezer for a later date. Next, I bought these clear storage bins from Amazon to organize my foods into different sections while also being able to see clearly what’s inside. To shop the fridge storage bins, click here.

I dedicated six clear bins to the following:

  • Condiments
  • Jarred foods (such as olives, capers, and spices)
  • Salad Dressings/Vinegars/Cooking Wines
  • Produce
  • Beer/Alcohol
  • Sparkling Waters

Having allocated sections in the fridge allows for easy access and eliminates any additional clutter. Everything now has a particular home where it belongs keeping everything clean and tidy. I especially love the fact that the bins are clear so it allows me to see what’s inside. You could even add a label to each bin if you’d like to help keep things organized but I love the look the bins provide.

I hope all of you have an amazing weekend and got some of you in the mood for your own spring cleaning!

Xoxo,

Kristen Jean
